Baby vicuñas and other small Andean animals with their mothers. Beautiful pictures

The images of beautiful small animals such as baby vicunas, with light tones and green spaces as a backdrop, inspire inner tranquility, create a sense of familiarity that reassures us. This emotion intensifies when we see them accompanied by their mothers, playing in their habitat, seeking security in them or simply enjoying their presence and contact. As in humans, and as in the small offspring of other Peruvian camelids (and Andean, such as the "llama" or lama glama, guanaco and alpaca).

It is fortunate that all of them are in the highlands or "Peruvian Andes", it is a nuisance to know that poachers, unscrupulous criminals, always leave traces of their crimes and corrupt or incompetent authorities never fulfill the role of protecting these species

Vicuña baby- (Vicugna vicugna)

The vicuña is the smallest species of the Camelidae family, it has only a quarter of the weight of the guanaco, but it has a similar body shape, with a long thin neck and thin legs. They live in high altitude grasslands in the Andes mountains of Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile; rarely below 3,500 m (11,500 feet). In the heights where he lives, the conditions are cold and dry, so the vicuñas never move far from a source of running water.

The reddish brown fur of the Vicuña is thick and woolly, and allows the animal to tolerate the cold, snow and ice of its mountain habitat. The female has a gestation period of between 10 and 11 months. Young people can stand and walk shortly after birth and breastfeed for approximately 10 months.

Alpaca (Vicugna pacos)

Alpaca also lives in the Andean highlands, preferably near relatively humid areas. It's like the flame, a domesticated camelid, but it's smaller than the latter. The death rate of baby alpacas is alarming. In a serious epidemic, up to 100 may die up to 80; In less severe months, between 40 and 50 offspring are lost. A group of researchers from the National University of Major of San Marcos (UNMSM), successfully developed a vaccine to reduce the mortality of alpaca offspring. An adequate and timely sanitary treatment reduces or prevents the action of bacterial infections that cause diarrhea, or the action of rotavirus, coronavirus and parasites.

A female alpaca has a gestation period of 11 months; the next month it may already be pregnant again. Intense reproductive activity, without resting period, affects the immunity of the offspring.

Llama (Lama glama)

The "llama" (Lama glama) is the largest and heaviest camelid in America, reaching a length of 1.6 meters and weighing more than 150 kg. He lives in mountainous areas and the healthiest populations are in Bolivia.

Guanaco (Lama guanicoe)

Like the vicuña, the guanacos (Lama guanaco) are wild camelids, and are found in abundance in Argentine Patagonia, where there is about 80% of the total population. The guanacos are extremely adaptable, they can live in scrubland, mountains (up to 4500 meters), savannas, humid temperate forests, grasslands, and so on. Wool is also appreciated.
